Common Problems With Air Springs – What To Look For
Posted December 2, 2015 by adminHere are some common problems with air springs and what to look for.
Do you have a “Check Air Suspension” light popping on in your truck? If so, you may have an issue with your air springs. Air springs are part of the air suspension system used in vehicle suspension. This system is powered by a compressor that will pump air into its bellows. When running properly, your air springs will contribute to a smooth and level ride in your vehicle. When running improperly, you’ll be in for a bouncy, uncomfortable ride. We are showing you 5 common problems with air springs, and what to look for to diagnose the source of your troubles.
- Visually Check For Deformed Air Springs. Deformed air springs are one of the common causes of issues with your suspension. This can happen due to improper handling, transport, or storage issues.
- Bouncing. As we said at the onset, if there are issues with your air springs or air suspension, you will be in for a bumpy ride. This is just one of the things to look for when your air suspension is acting up.
- Check For Air Leaks. Leaking from your air suspension will be located at the fittings. Test for a leak by soaping up the fittings with soap and water and checking for bubbles.
- Assess Any Damage. Damage to the air springs can happen in many forms, and cuts to the conical beads are just one of them. This can happen due to improper mounting. Correct this issue by keeping your beads clean and free from any dirt or corrosion. You may also want to avoid driving without air suspension pressure.
- Avoid Overloading Your Truck. A burst air spring happens when a vehicle becomes overloaded, and can become an unpleasant issue to fix. This problem highlights the importance of never exceeding the weight limit of your truck.
